Prince George's County Council to vote on giving themselves raises

Proposal would raise Prince George's council, executive pay after two-year freeze; Prince George's leaders are the highest paid in the state.

The Prince George's County Council's proposal Tuesday to increase its $96,417 annual salary — the highest amount earned by council members in Maryland — drew sharp criticism from at least one presumptive council member.

"Are they really doing this? This is a really bad idea," said Mel Franklin, the presumptive District 9 county councilman, who is unopposed in the general election.
